During the morning hours, a strong, but somewhat moisture starved, low pressure system moved down from the NW toward the valley. During the morning, as the system moved through the high country in northern Arizona, some locations received a decent amount of snowfall for May (see below for snowfall totals). During the late morning through mid afternoon hours, the low pressure system moved almost directly over the valley. With strong dynamics associated with this system and a slight increase in moisture, some showers and thunderstorms developed across the region. The high rainfall total observed in the valley, was in Carefree Ranch, with 0.31in. of rainfall being recorded. During the late afternoon/evening hours the low quickly moved off to the east, resulting in a decrease in rainfall threats. While this system did not bring much rainfall to the valley, it did break the 80 day long streak of no measurable rainfall being recorded at our location, with the last time we recorded rainfall being on February 22nd.
Below are the snowfall totals for Northern Arizona, released by the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Flagstaff, Arizona.
An isolated thunderstorm formed over the area around 2:45pm and moved out of the area by 3:00pm. A breif period of light to moderate rain, as well as a few lightning strikes and gusty winds, were assocaited with this storm. The storm total was 0.02in., with a peak rain rate of 0.06in/hr occuring at 2:58pm.

This system also brought with it much cooler temperatures. The high temperature on May 13th, was 73.3°F, which is the lowest high temperature we have recorded in the month of May, since we started keeping records in April 2001! Other locations that broke high low records are as follows:

- Robert, on the east side of Silly Mountain, reported a trace amount of rainfall.
- Al, in Northwest Gold Canyon, reported a rain total of 0.02in. associated with a thundershower around 3:00pm. He also reported a trace amount of rain in the morning.
