Overall, this storm was not a large rain producer for the valley. The greatest rainfall occurred over northern Apache Junction with a rain gauge, managed by the Maricopa County Flood Control, measuring 0.39in. of rainfall.
The first round of light showers moved through the area around 5:10am lasting until about 5:30am. This area of light showers gave us a rain total of 0.03in.. Another area of light rain showers developed and moved through the area around 10:00am through 10:30am. This area of showers gave us an additional 0.04in. of rain, making the storm total 0.07in.. This makes the monthly total 0.33in. with a yearly rain total of 2.76in..
Al, in Gold Canyon, reported 0.02in. of rainfall. Also in Gold Canyon, Robert reported a trace amount of rain. Thank you for your rain reports! After the passage of the front around 4:00am on April 21st the temperature rapidly fell as the cold air filtered in. At 4:15am the temperature was 56.9°F and fifteen minutes later the temperature had dropped to 50.7°F. This sharp drop in temperature can be seen by looking at the temperature graph below.
By looking at the surface map from 5:00am on April 21st you can see that the front had completely passed and was in Eastern Arizona by 5:00am, which supports what was discussed above with the front passing through our location around 4:00am. You will also see the center of the low pressure system on the map, marked by the red L, with the rain showers that moved through our area wrapping around it.
The high temperature on April 21st was 64.5°F, which was 12.5°F cooler then the high temperature of 77.0°F on the 22nd. The average temperature for this time of year is in the lower 80’s.
