For this time of year, the complex of storms that moved into the area was reasonably sizeable and gave the area a respectable amount of rainfall. With the combination of those two things, we went ahead and rated this storm in the moderate category.

During this storm, we recorded 15,630 strokes of lightning, with 1,140 of those being within 50 miles of our location, and 59% of the strikes being cloud to ground. Mike in Gold Canyon reported hail, and in Apache Junction 0.41in. of rain was reported by Tom.

By watching the radar loop below you can see the storm develop in the evening on July 4th to the Southeast of Gold Canyon, then begin to move into the area in the early morning hours on July 5th. The loop begins on July 4, 2006 at 5pm and ends on July 5, 2006 around 7am.
