This is the second large storm to affect the area so far this month! The storm total with this system was 1.45in., making the monthly rainfall thus far 1.93in.. Between November 30th and December 9th (10days), we have received 3.90in. of rainfall, which is 34% of the yearly rain total, thus far, of 11.34in.. Due to the impressive rainfall totals, we have rated this storm in the significant category.
The light to moderate showers, with some periods of heavy rain, were due to a low pressure system and associated cold front, which moved through the area. Ahead of the front, a large amount of moisture was imported into the area, along with some decent dynamics, which helped enhance the uplift, which in return produced some impressive rainfall totals across the valley for the second weekend in a row.
The first measurable rain at our location was recorded around 7:20pm on December 7th, and was continuous until 7:15am on December 8th. Periods of heavy rainfall moved through the area during the early morning hours on December 8th, with a peak rainfall rate of 2.69in/hr occurring at 4:02am. From when the rain began to 7:15am on December 8th, we recorded 1.41in. of rainfall. Another area of light rainfall moved through the area from 9:00am to around 10:45am leading to an additional 0.04in. of rainfall. The overall storm total for this storm system was 1.45in.. The daily rain total for December 7th was 0.46in., and for December 8th it was 0.99in..

This storm system was cooler then the last as it came from the northwest, and not out of the south as the last storm on December 1st did. As a result, some areas of northern Arizona did receive snowfall. Below are some of the snow totals released by the National Weather Service in Flagstaff. (totals are in inches)

- Al, in Northwest Gold Canyon, reported at 8:37am on December 8th, a storm total of 1.41in. and noted that light rain was continuing. He reported an additional 0.09in. of rain falling between 8:37am and the end of the storm, bringing the storm total to 1.50in..
- Robert, in West Gold Canyon, reported a storm total of 1.50+in. Rain total is from December 7th in the evening to December 8th at 3:08pm.
- Paul, near Sleepy Hollow and Del Monte in Gold Canyon, reported a rain total of 1.50in..
- Ken, just east of the Freestone Park in Gilbert, reported a storm total of 1.13in..
- John, in Mountain Brook Village, reported a storm total from December 7th to December 8th of 1.50in..
- Mike, near Falling Star and Cloud View in Gold Canyon, reported a storm total of 1.88in.. He noted nice steady rain all night. The storm total was the average from three rain gauges.
- Don, from Montesa in Gold Canyon, reported a storm total of 2.50in..
