About

First and foremost, this site was created for fun and hopefully teaches people a little something about the weather along the way. This site is run by Matt (in his free time), a climatologist/meteorologist, and has had a passion for weather since at least 5th grade! He has a Ph.D. in Meteorology and Climatology from Arizona State University. He currently works at the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, producing daily air quality forecasts for the state, and is the lead forecaster for the smoke management program. Matt also has experience teaching college-level meteorology classes and working in broadcast news. This site is in no way connected to his place of employment, and all views and opinions expressed are his own.

Why the name?

Matt's first car was a 1969 Volkswagen Bus, which he turned into the Weather Bus, complete with a weather station. To share his excitment for weather with the local community, he started WeatherBus.com in 2005. Sadly, the VW Bus was destroyed in a fire, but the site lived on!
